How to use hemp for sleep

Timing. Edibles need to be digested. Take gummies [45–60] minutes before you want to be asleep — not as you get into bed. Oils taken under the tongue tend to come on faster.

Start low, and give it a week. Half a gummy on night one. Cannabinoid tolerance varies enormously between people, and the most common mistake is taking a full strong dose the first night, sleeping badly, and concluding it doesn’t work. Hold a dose for several nights before changing it.

Same time each night. The routine does part of the work. Consistency matters more than potency.

Don’t stack it. Not with alcohol, and not with other sleep aids or prescription medication unless your doctor has said it’s fine. Cannabinoids can interact with a number of medications.

Then do the boring things too. No hemp product outcompetes a bedroom with a bright screen in it. Cool, dark room; a consistent wake time; caffeine before early afternoon. These products are there to support a routine, not replace one.

If sleeplessness is persistent, see a doctor. Chronic insomnia has causes worth diagnosing, and there are treatments with far better evidence behind them than anything on this page.

Every batch, tested and published

Potency claims are only as good as the paperwork behind them. Every Exhale product is tested by an independent third-party laboratory for cannabinoid potency, pesticides, and heavy metals and we publish the results rather than supplying them on request.

  • Every batch tested. Not a representative sample. Each one.
  • COAs published openly.
  • Potency verified. The mg on the label is the mg in the COA.
  • USA-grown hemp, Farm Bill compliant.
  • 21+ only. Age verification required at checkout.

How to read a COA: find your batch number on the package, match it on our lab page, then check three things, the total cannabinoid figures against the label, the pesticide and heavy-metal panels for “ND” (not detected), and the test date. If a brand can’t produce that for the jar in your hand, that tells you something.

FAQs

Which cannabinoid is best for sleep?

CBN is the one most associated with evening use, and it’s in every formula in this collection. Whether you want CBD alongside it, or hemp-derived delta-9 as well, depends on whether you want to stay clear-headed. Our CBD + CBN gummies are non-intoxicating; the D9 formulas are not.

How long before bed should I take a sleep gummy?

[45–60] minutes. Edibles have to be digested, so taking one as you get into bed means the onset arrives after you’ve already been lying there a while.

Will sleep gummies make me feel groggy in the morning?

It depends mostly on the THC. Non-intoxicating CBD + CBN formulas are less associated with next-day fog. With delta-9, next-morning heaviness is a common report at higher doses — one of the better reasons to start at half a gummy.

Can I take these every night?

Many customers do. But we can’t make a safety claim about long-term nightly use, the research isn’t there. If you’re using anything nightly on an ongoing basis, that’s a conversation worth having with your doctor, especially if you’re on other medication.

Will hemp sleep products show up on a drug test?

Anything containing THC can. Standard tests look for THC metabolites and don’t care about the legal source. Full-spectrum CBD contains trace THC and can also trigger a positive. If you’re tested, don’t rely on any product in this collection being invisible.

What’s the difference between CBN and melatonin?

Melatonin is a hormone that signals your body it’s night, it acts on timing. CBN is a cannabinoid that interacts with your endocannabinoid system. Different mechanisms, and some people respond well to one and poorly to the other.

How much CBN should I take?

There’s no established dose. The 2023 trial mentioned above used 20mg nightly. Products on the market range widely. Start at the low end of whatever you buy and hold it for several nights before adjusting.

Are these legal in my state?

Federally they comply with the 2018 Farm Bill today, but state law varies and some states restrict specific cannabinoids. Check your state’s rules, and see the November 2026 section above for the federal change coming.
